In Volume Two of his minutely researched new history of the
Southern Electric, David Brown describes the main line electrification
schemes of the 1930s and provides highly detailed descriptions
of the rolling stock built for them, including the famous Brighton
Belle. The story of the electrified network through World War
Two and the British Railways era to 1983 is then covered, including
new rolling stock and departmental conversions introduced during
this period.
The
book is comprehensively illustrated with approximately
150 photographs.
