David Soggee’s
slide shows have been captivating railway society gatherings
in London and the Home Counties
for many years, but he has had few pictures published and
is probably not so well known outside this area. Now, for
the first time, he has assembled a selection of his photographic
masterpieces for a wider audience to enjoy. This album focuses
on the Western Region as it was in the late 1950s and early
1960s, before diesel traction and the Beeching branch line
closure plan had made significant impact. In addition to
a wonderful variety of locomotives and routes, the images
also portray the railway infrastructure of the time and will
delight the modeller and historian alike.
