Buses for London's New Towns

£35.00

By Laurie Akehurst

In the 1950s, following destruction of over 100,000 London homes in the second world war and the need to replace old and unfit housing, a large programme of New Towns for displaced Londoners was undertaken. Most of the New Towns were within London Transport’s Country Bus area and this book tells the story of the bus services introduced or amended to serve these new developments. The story is taken into London Country days and up to 1977, when lettered area schemes started to replace many of the services that had been introduced by London Transport.
